On June 3, Miss Black Bushy Tail, the babies' aunt, was brought to the vet to have her stitches removed.

SHFVN informed the vet of the babies' birth the previous day on arrival at the office and told him all appeared to be well with Mom & Babies.

Fate is an interesting phenomenon.

While SHFVN was waiting to bring Miss Black Bushy Tail in for stitch removal, someone brought in a yowling, one-day old kitten whose mommy had been killed by a car that morning.

The vet asked SHFVN if she would be willing to see if Mama Kitty would adopt the little orphan.

Was SHFVN going to say NO!! to one more cat and risk being struck by lightning while walking out the door??  SHFVN may be soft headed, but she is not stupid!  So, the little orange orphan came home with Miss Black Bushy Tail auntie kitty.

Mama Kitty sniffed the orphan, licked him (or her) a couple of times and grabbed him (or her) by the scruff of the neck and tossed him (or her) on the pile with the rest of the babies.  He (or she) has been part of the gang ever since.

You can see the little orphan's butt very clearly.  He or she certainly does stand out in the crowd!  Picture was taken on June 3, 2002.
The babies remained in the little hobbit hole until June 13th.  I guess it was getting kind of crowded in there because they are growing by leaps & bounds.  But their little eyes aren't open yet.

Mommy Kitty schlepped them up to the loft bed, one by one, and they are now Stratos Dwellers (as in the old Star Trek episode -- the beings who lived high up above everything else).

The little Orange guy (or gal) is now known as Opie -- as soon as I can get a clear shot of his (or her) little face, I will post it.  He or she definitely looks like an Opie.  Two of the others look like carbon copies of Mom & the other two look gray with tiger markings on legs and tails.

They are beautiful, perfect little creatures and precious little fluff bundles!  Their eyes are not yet open.  If it looks like there will be danger of them falling out of their loft habitat, SHFVN will move them to lower ground if Mama Kitty has not yet done so.  Mama Kitty has demonstrated incredible instincts and wisdom about her babies and Opie thus far ... Opie certainly is not treated any differently than the others.  She is the best Mom any kitten could ask for and her sister, Aunt Black Bushy Tail is the best auntie any kitten could ask for.  She, also, would have been a wonderful mommy.

The kittens are petted and loved every single day and will grow into wonderful people kitties.  Mama Kitty and Auntie Kitty are also becoming mellower each day.  Auntie Kitty is more reserved and shy than Mama Kitty but is a very sweet creature.

Anyone who can give these beautiful creatures a good and loving home and who will promise to love them and keep them happy and healthy can e-mail me at NinjaRN@twcny.rr.com .  Mama Kitty will be spayed as soon as the babies are weaned and ready to go out on their own.
